Cox Manufacturing provides monthly wellness education meetings for employees, each with a focus on some aspect of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This month, employees led a discussion and demonstration of proper lifting techniques. Training coordinator Sean Althaus instructed employees on how to lift and set down items from the ground safely, while keeping the discussion relevant by using real-world examples that manufacturing employees could relate to, such as lifting raw material barstock, high quantities of machined parts, and large boxes.
Also leading the education was administrative assistant Jessica Althaus, providing demonstrations of both correct and incorrect postures while lifting different objects. Employees were given handouts with example photos and directions to follow along; key safety points, such as maintaining a neutral spine, the heels of your feet down, and proper knee placement, were reiterated by Sean and Jessica throughout the hour-long education. Continuous control of these points help to nurture healthy habits that will last long into life, as well as foster a sense of independence in the real world.
The wellness education wrapped up with an interactive demonstration by two volunteers, during which Sean gave each a thorough walkthrough with helpful pointers, and a routine to begin for employees wanting to improve their technique.
Engaging employees and inspiring them to make healthy life choices is a crucial part of Cox Manufacturing's vision. Thank you Sean and Jessica for helping achieve that goal, one deadlift at a time.
